Crowns – a cap for all seasons?
Crowns – or caps as they can be called – are the cover that fits over what’s left of a natural tooth to restore its look, strength and shape.
A crown may be the answer for broken or weak teeth or a tooth with a large filling. In turn this could help to support a bridge or denture.
Crowns are versatile and the materials they are made of are always being extended and new models introduced.
Porcelain, ceramic and glass are the metal free alternatives. The porcelain alone is most often used for front teeth. The metal free alternatives are aesthetically superior and just as strong.
If looked after properly with good dental hygiene a crown can last for many years and with the colour matched as closely as possible to your own teeth it should soon look and feel a natural addition.
