Dental Crowns

If you have a broken or weak tooth, don’t fret because a crown may be the answer. We can often use them on a tooth with a large filling as well.

What are dental crowns?

Dental Crowns – or caps as they can be called – are the cover that fits over what’s left of a natural tooth to restore its look, strength and shape. A crown may be the answer for broken or weak teeth or a tooth with a large filling. In turn this could help to support a bridge or denture.

What are dental crowns made of?

Modern dental crowns are versatile and the materials they are made of are always being extended and new models introduced. Porcelain, ceramic and glass are the metal free alternatives. The porcelain alone is most often used for front teeth. The metal free alternatives are aesthetically superior and just as strong.

How long do crowns last?

If looked after properly with good dental hygiene a crown can last between 5 and 15 years, provided you maintain good dental hygiene. With the colour matched as closely as possible to your own teeth it should soon look and feel a natural addition.
