Teeth Whitening
At The Forum we pride ourselves on offering the best and most up to date methods of tooth whitening, delivered by highly trained staff. You can now get that smile you always dreamed of!
Teeth whitening is a process that makes the colour of teeth whiter through an oxidation process. The process has been proven to have no risk of damage to the tooth enamel. Thanks to this method, we can give our patients a beautiful white smile which can enhance your own self confidence as well as giving other people better perceptions of you. It may sound like magic, but it is pure science!
Whitening is achieved by putting a special gel into a customised tray that is placed over the teeth. The whitening process starts the moment you put the tray over the teeth, and you wear it for three to four hours per day, or overnight for three to four weeks.
The whitening kit you will receive contains silicone mouth trays, a protective box for storage, and the whitening gel. We routinely provide 10% and 16% concentrations on the gel, dependant on the sensitivity of your teeth. Often you can start on 10%, before moving into the 16% concentration.
Don’t worry if any of this seems confusing, your dentist will give you full instructions on how to use your kit!
Teeth whitening will only work on natural teeth and cannot lighten the colour of fillings or caps. If you want to find out more about this please get in touch and we can discuss it further.
Teeth whitening can last up to 2 or 3 years, dependant on how well the patient looks after their teeth. Smoking and drinking, for example, can create staining.
The tooth whitening gel doesn’t cause any damage to your teeth, gums or fillings. The treatment is completely safe and should not cause any substantial pain. However, some patients may experience some form of sensitivity either during, or after, the initial treatment. Any sensitivity will just be short term though and is a small price to pay for a beautiful smile! We will also treat any pain as a result of sensitivity so don’t have any worries regarding this.
It is important to note that most people suffer only from minor tingling sensations.
